4 NEW BOOKS ON MY ‘TO BUY’ LIST FOR SUMMER

4 NEW BOOKS ON MY ‘TO BUY’ LIST FOR SUMMER
As you will know by now, books are one of my very favourite things. From a novel I can’t put down to a fascinating biography that is not only entertaining but informative, there is nothing I enjoy more than settling down to some good reading. Coffee-table books are also something I love to collect. I truly believe that these big, glossy volumes with their stunning photography, illustrations and charm have taught me a lot of what I know about good design, as well as informing my taste and how I want to live. THE ELEGANT LIFE OF CORDELIA DE CASTELLANE

THE ELEGANT LIFE OF CORDELIA DE CASTELLANE

Every now and then I discover someone on Instagram and get lost down a rabbit-hole of elegance. This happened recently when I stumbled across the account of Cordelia de Castellane - artistic director of Dior Maison and Baby Dior. Cordelia lives a charmed existence in her country home just North of Paris - this is a world of passed-down-antiques, outdoor dining under the stars, rooms layered with fabric and textiles, an abundance of flowers fresh from the garden - basically a romantic lifestyle that is rooted in simplicity and tradition.

Let’s take a peek inside Cordelia’s world.

DELICIOUS FRENCH FRIANDS

DELICIOUS FRENCH FRIANDS
Borrowed from the French word meaning “Tasty Little Things”, Friands has become the English name for these deliciously buttery cakes.  Ground Almonds are combined with flour and frothy beaten egg whites act as the raising agent.  The addition of bright berries with a sprinkle of nuts or a pinch of lemon zest make them the picture perfect accompaniment for afternoon tea.  One of the reasons I love Friands is that they can be frozen and if it’s afternoon tea for one you can still enjoy a beautiful, home-made but not over indulgent treat by removing only two or three from the freezer at a time.   Continue reading
