OUR TOP TEN FAVOURITE BEAUTY PRODUCTS THIS SUMMER
In the enchanting city of Edinburgh, summer may not boast the blazing sunshine of the South of France, but its allure shines through in its own unique way. The beauty of its streets is amplified by the vibrant brightness that graces the skyline, while the evenings stretch lazily, granting us precious moments to revel in the outdoors.
Vanessa and I, self-professed devotees of all things beauty, are constantly on the lookout for new treasures that deserve a coveted spot ‘On The Blog’. And what better time than summer to lavish our skin and tresses with an extra touch of love and care? We present to you our handpicked selection of beauty products that are bound to ignite a spark in your heart. Not only will they bestow upon you a radiant glow, but they also make for great gifts too!
1. Chanel - Les Beige creme bronzer
This creme bronzer will ensure you keep your summer glow all year long. Although an old favourite (it has been out for a while) it now comes in a smaller travel size as the larger original wasn’t really very practical for travel. During summer, creme products work better for your skin and this creme bronzer will give you a sun-kissed look. I’m so happy with this as it applies so smoothly with a large brush and it’s easy to layer when you want to use it more for a contour.
2. KATE SOMMERVILLE - MOIsturizing cleanser
Kate Sommerville is a US brand I’ve never tried before but was recommended to me at my local SPACE NK (our UK equivalent of Sephora!) when I was looking for a gentle cleanser that really deep cleans without giving your face that tight feeling, which isn’t good for my face as I have sensitive skin. This is 100% a winner. I often use makeup for filming and this cleanser smoothly removes it all. Not only that, it smells wonderful! To top off all the reasons why I love this product -it also has one of my favourite ingredients - Manuka Honey. I highly recommend this one and will keep it as a staple in my skincare routine.
3. WESTMAN ATELIER - LIQUID SUPER LOADED
Speaking of make-up… When you live in Scotland and you need to look good on camera, you need make-up! - Vanessa and I are both huge fans of Westman Atelier, a clean beauty brand by makeup-artist Gucci Westman. They’ve had a busy year with some amazing new launches, but this one caught my attention. It’s the liquid super loaded. I was already a fan of the lit-up stick, and I love a complexion enhancer. I use it on my cheeks or overall after I moisturize if I need a healthy glow. I’ve tried the shade Peau de Rose, and it works beautifully with my Westman Atelier Baby Cheek blush (I use the color Petal)
4. La ROCHE POSAY - ANTHELIOS UVMUNE SPF 50
I have yet to find a better SPF than La Roche Posay - ANTHELIOS is a pioneer when it comes to suncare products. The very high sun protection is a result of 25 years of research focused on sun skincare for sensitive skin. This light formula works perfectly under any makeup or your usual skincare. I HIGHLY recommend this all year round, especially for summer.
5. LE LABO - ANOTHER 13
Summer also means a new fragrance. Another 13 from LE LABO is subtle but very interesting, and really captures a summer feeling without the usual notes that are often too sweet or citrusy. It’s a unisex scent with incredible notes from moss, jasmine, and ambrette seeds. Once a limited edition but now available all year round. This is also a great gift!!
6. DAVINES - SU Hair Mask
Davines is a haircare brand from Parma, Italy. This is a great mask to restore the hydration of hair damaged by the sun, chlorine, and salt. It takes hair from dry and dull to light and shiny. Davines is a great overall brand if you’re looking for sulphate-free products, they have a wide range for various hair types. The All in One Milk is also an amazing product all year round.
7. DO SON - FRAGRANCED HAIR MIST
Do Son by Diptyque is another classic summer scent - BUT sometimes a hair mist works better than an Eau de Parfum - This hair mist is perfect when you don’t want to be overwhelmed by a heavy fragrance… Like when you’re sipping on an Aperol Spritz at noon…
8. AUGUSTINUS BADER - THE rich CREME
After hearing so many rave reviews about Augustinus Bader skincare, I was excited to attend an event held by the brand to celebrate its launch in Edinburgh. Hosted by celebrity facialist and brand ambassador, Lord Gavin McLeod, who inspiringly shared the magic of Augustinus Bader, I left with a beautiful goodie-bag of the product. That was two months ago and I have just finished my first bottle of the Rich Cream. Although pricey, I can confidently say that it is the best moisturiser I’ve ever used. Enthusing the skin with moisture, and leaving an incredible glow, I doubt I will be able to resist adopting this exceptional product into my daily routine.
9. SISLEY - SUPER SOIN AUTOBRONZANT HYDRATANT VISAGE
Keep your tan for as long as possible with SISLEY self tanning face creme. An ultra hydrating and smooth creme that will ensure you keep that sun-kissed glow all year round. Tried and tested.
10. TOM FORD - SOLEIL BLANC BODY SHIMMERing oil
This is a decadent shimmering body oil for when you need to be a bit ‘extra’- It smells heavenly (like suntan lotion) and gives you the perfect body glow. Even a light touch on the shoulders, when you’re wearing a nice summer dress makes it special - after all , the full shimmer look isn’t for everyone!
