Five favourite bars and restaurants in Edinburgh

Gleneagles Townhouse – The Spence

The Gleneagles Townhouse is the hottest and newest place to go in Town. A private members club, the Townhouse is the sister of the famous golf retreat, Gleneagles, and has all the old-world charm you'd expect, with a dash of chic and style worthy of a place in Edinburghs capital.  Once home to the Bank Of Scotland, the townhouse is elegantly located on St Andrew Square, standing majestically with its pillared facade and Georgian sash windows. Although Gleneagles Townhouse is members club, its ground floor restaurant, The Spence, is open and available to the public - offering a tantalising glimpse into what you can expect if you sign up for a membership.

‘It’s one of the places I visit the most’ – I just love the laid-back vibe and the fact that’s dogs are welcomed with open arms.

The concept of Pickles is genius - they don’t serve hot food, instead offering a selection of mouth-watering charcuterie boards and cold snacks. There is honestly nothing nicer than settling down for an evening here with good friends, a bottle of red, lots of cheese, and your beloved pooch.

The Little White Pig

Another of my regular haunts, The Little White Pig describes itself as a raffish common room for the New Town - I couldn’t think of a more fitting description. From the outside The Little White Pig is immediately inviting with its elegant white facade, awning, and potted plants. Once inside you will be greeted by a cool and contemporary interior adorned with comfy seating, worn rugs, and walls filled with eclectic art.

Fishers of Leith

Nestled on the historic shore in Leith, and set in a 17th century watchtower, Fishers is my go-to restaurant for an elegant evening of incredible seafood. I love coming here with a small group of friends where we order lots of dishes from the menu to share with a crisp bottle of wine.

Paradise Palms

Paradise Palms is my favourite place to go for a cocktail. I first visited after a recommendation by a vegan friend who told me I must head there and try one of their incredible meat-free burgers! It didn’t disappoint. The cocktail menu is huge, with all the classic you’d expect as well as some creative inventions that are worthy of getting a little tipsy for.

With live music and an on-site record store, Paradise Palms is a cool and fun destination that everyone will truly enjoy.
